Global Compact Network India (GCNI) in collaboration with ICCo jointly held a Knowledge Sharing and Networking Meeting to discuss on ‘Role of Private Sector in Impacting Bottom of Pyramid Livelihoods for the Poor.’ The meeting was attended by more than 85 people representing the business sector, civil society, and academia deliberating on how innovative sustainable solutions can be applied in creating livelihoods for poor. Pooran Chandra Pandey, Executive Director, UN-GCNI gave an overview of the problem and stressed upon the role of forming effective and engaging partnerships among all stakeholders. A.K. Pavadia, Former Additional Secretary & Advisor, Inter-State Council Secretariat, Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India, in his opening remarks emphasised the need for ‘Strategic Philanthropy’ approach by the Pvt. Sector for creating livelihoods for the poor. This was followed by two presentations wherein Alay Barah, Executive Director, ICCo, and Akhilesh Gupta, Manager – CSR, ACC Limited, highlighted the work being carried out by their respective organisations to facilitate and empower communities at Bottom of the Pyramid through creation of sustainable livelihood options and use of tools such as, microfinance and value-chain management solutions.
