Climate Week Opening Ceremony (22 September 2024)

As the global climate emergency intensifies, Mr. Ratnesh, Executive Director, India Network attended the Climate Week NYC 2024, aligning with the international call for urgent and transformative action. Hosted by the Climate Group, the ceremony reinforced the theme “It’s Time”—a declaration that incremental efforts are no longer sufficient. UN GCNI, committed to driving climate action within the corporate world, shares this sense of urgency, advocating for renewable energy, energy efficiency, and low-carbon solutions as we approach a critical year for energy transition.

The Honourable Philip E. Davis, Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas in his keynote address warned the global community against the inertia and insistence on business as usual. He also highlighted the positive trend of MDBs tripling their investments in climate change finance.

He indicated that true cost of fossil fuels on the planet should be recovered from the fossil fuel companies and the trade agreements should reflect through accurate emissions accounting.

He proudly asserted that today SIDS are not being constrained by their vulnerability but are taking bold ambitious action to achieve resilient nature based solutions.
