Global Compact Network India, the Indian arm of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), successfully conducted its 9th National Convention on 14th February 2014 in New Delhi at ITC Maurya. The event witnessed participation of more than 400 guests drawing from Corporates, Government, NGOs, Civil Society, Academia, Consulting Firm, Media and other stakeholders. The event brought more than 50 CEOs, Managing Directors and CMDs from public and private sector together to discuss issues of Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility in India.
Dr. M. Veerappa Moily, Union Cabinet Minister, Ministry of Petroleum & Minister Environment and Forests (additional charge), the Chief Guest of the National Convention, inaugurated the event. He also launched UN Global Compact-Accenture CEO Study on Sustainability 2013: Insights from CEOs in the Global Compact Network India and the Business for Peace (B4P) initiative. Speaking at the conference the Minister asserted that the importance of creating a sustainable future for the future generation is the need for the energy security. The energy security need for the country cannot be achieved unless competitive prices are given.
Mr. Sudhir Vasudeva, President, GCNI and CMD, ONGC during the event said ‘this is the first time that we have managed to replicate the UNGC-Accenture Global Study in India. It is interesting to see how on some levels the thoughts on Indian CEOs completely resonate with the global outlook, whereas there are also stark contrasts on some issues’.
