GCNI held North East Roundtable on SDGs on the occasion of launch of its membership with Mahatma Gandhi University, Meghalaya

Global Compact Network India in collaboration with Mahatma Gandhi University, Meghalaya held the North East Roundtable on SDGs on the theme “Role of Higher Education Institutions in Sustainable Development of North East India” on 8th August 2016.

Mr. Ram Mohan Mishra, IAS, CEO, Meghalaya Basin Development Authority, Government of Meghalaya was the Chief Guest at the event wherein he stated that Government plays a major hand in driving the implementation of development agenda at state and national levels given the structure of constitution and has clearly stated that the first claim on development belongs to poor. To make continuous efforts towards sustainable and targeted development in North East India, timely and qualitative interventions in various development activities through partnerships with Institutions, organizations and government agencies is important to achieve sustainable outcomes.

Given the importance of Global Compact Network India (GCNI), it can contribute immensely in the field of education by mainstreaming SDGs into the curriculum, providing training to faculty in the region and holding awareness and outreach to the companies. It has joined with a number of partners to advance education around the world and has created a framework in advancing education goals.

Government in India is very keen to support academic institutions of higher learning to ensure that youth and students are fully skilled to play their respective roles in escalating growth and development in the various sectors in our country.
