Global Compact Network India jointly with Shikhar organization for Social Development organised the 5th National CSR Summit on “Enhancing Opportunities to Change the Destiny of Sport; CSR in Indian Sports: Section 135, Companies Act 2013” on 28th Feb 2017 in New Delhi.
The 5th Summit in the series discussed on the possibilities of development of the sports in India and the enhancement of the status of Indian sports. Since, CSR has been interpreted as the social change agent by doing projects in Health, Education, Livelihood, Environment, Sanitation and Women Empowerment but not in sports. Now it’s a high time to set the role of various stakeholders in promoting sports and its infrastructure.
The event was inaugurated by Dr. A.K. Dubey, IAS, Secretary, Department of Youth Affairs, GOI in presence of Mr. Abdul Kalam, Director, OMDC & Former CMD, Coal India; Dr. Bhaskar Chatterjee, Director IILM & Former DG & CEO, IICA; Dr. Hanif Qurechi, IPS, Commissioner of Police; Mrs. Reva Nayyar, IAS (Retd.) Chairperson, Bal Sahyog; Hanif Qureshi, IPS, Commissioner of Police- Faridabad and Dr.Uddesh Kohli, Senior Advisor, UNGC.
Dr. A.K Dubey in his inaugural address stated that the business cannot be conducted if the society is not allowing them to do and the corporate sector is more into funding, so the perception of responsibility is social in nature. The govt works on behalf of society and CSR is not a gesture on part of corporate entities. The corporates are there because the society exist. In terms of sports, when person health is ensured the CSR nurtures within that. The event had two round of panel discussion focussing on Kindling the passion for Sports at Grass Root Level: Challenges & Issues and Creating Infrastructural Support for Global Competition: Collaborative propositions. The panel discussion saw the representation from NGOs, Corporates, Govt, Public & Private sector and Academia.
The event was further followed by the representations of some of the eminent personalities well known in India that included Mr. Virender Sehwag, a Renowned Cricketer; Mrs. Deepa Malik; Ms. Babita Phogat and Ms. Geeta Phogat, Wrestlers and Mr. Naved Khan, RJ- Radio Mirchi. Mrs. Deepa Malik, Ms. Babita Phogat and Ms. Geeta Phogat who has won several international sporting laurels, inspired everyone by their story epitomizing the undying human spirit in face of difficulties and challenges.
