Monthly Knowledge Sharing and Networking Meeting On ‘Leveraging CSR: Practices Benefiting Communities and Environment’

The monthly knowledge sharing and networking meeting for the month of January was organized by Global Compact Network India in collaboration with Renew Power Limited on 28th January 2016 at ReNew Power Limited, DLF City, Gurgaon on the theme “Leveraging CSR: Practices Benefiting Communities and Environment”. The meeting included a presentation on the theme by Vaishali Nigam Sinha, Director, ReNew Power discussing on Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives undertaken by Renew Power for building Sustainable Value. Renew Power has implemented ReNew India Initiative (RII) programme which is being implemented in partnership with various stakeholders such as NGOs, ReNew employees, the central and local government of India including investors etc. The initiative focuses on key thematic areas like Women Empowerment, Education, Health and Hygiene and Environment. The programme is covering 6 states of India and is spread across 70 villages so far, with total population of 1,00,000 approximately.
The second presentation at the meeting was delivered by Ashima Kukreja, Head CSR, Telenor India in which she discussed how sustainability is integrated into their group business strategy. The key projects initiated by Telenor India include Project Sampark for bridging the Mobile Gender Divide by providing benefits on paired SIM basis usage where 21% fewer women than men owned a mobile phone in low- to middle-income countries and providing street plays and outbound call centre to lower the barriers. Telenor has also implemented Webwise workshops in schools to build awareness, skill development and empowerment of children. Other initiatives towards digital literacy are implemented through SASHAKT (Digital education for old aged in Gujarat), PRAYAS (Digital education for rural youth and women – UP west), INTERNET ON WHEELS (Digital education for illiterate subscribers in UP East and Maharashtra) are implemented by Telenor. Employee Volunteering Programme and Rahat Disaster Relief Programme are also being run as a part of Telenor Initiative.
