Monthly meeting for the month of May concluded

Global Compact Network India organised the monthly knowledge sharing and networking meeting for the month of May titled Sustainable Value Creation and Waste Management.  The objective of the monthly meeting is to bring together members and non-members to share ideas, knowledge, best practices, and interventions on issues related to sustainable development in India, such as, waste management.

Around 45 members from public and private institutions attended the meeting.  Some of the institutions that were represented are:  Tata Power Distribution Limited, YES BANK Limited, ACC Limited, Mercedes Benz, Government of India (GoI) Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Tata Teleservices, and NGOs like Habitat for Humanity.

While Mr. Pooran Pandey, Executive Director, Global Compact Network India emphasized the need to create and share knowledge and hold vigorous debates to bring about positive change in sustainability, Ms. Sangeeta Robinson, CEO, Enduring Value Advisory and Practice noted that businesses are increasingly realizing that creating sustainable value for greater economic and social benefit is the need of the hour.  In that context, Enduring Value Advisory and Practice provides sustainability and CSR advisory to clients and stakeholders facilitate on ground implementation, assurance-based reporting based on national and international guidelines, and communication.  A major emphasis rests on measuring performance around quantitative and qualitative factors.

With respect to waste management, members noted that treatment systems are different in India due to seasonal variation and waste characterization.  In addition, there is a need to raise awareness among citizens about the implications of inefficient waste management practices on health and economic loss.
