World Environment Day 2026 Multi-Stakeholder Workshop “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.”
5 June 2026 | TVS Institute for Quality & Leadership, Bangalore

On the occasion of World Environment Day 2026,  United Nations Global Compact Network India  in collaboration with  TVS Motor Company, is convening a multi-stakeholder workshop in Bangalore to advance dialogue and action on nature-positive, climate-aligned business strategies.

The global sustainability discourse is undergoing a pivotal shift—recognizing nature not as an externality, but as a foundational economic asset. According to the World Economic Forum (Nature Risk Rising, 2020), over 50% of global GDP (~USD 44 trillion) is moderately or highly dependent on nature and ecosystem services. At the same time, the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (Global Assessment, 2019) estimates that nearly one million species face extinction, signalling systemic ecological risks with direct implications for economic stability and business continuity.

From a climate perspective, the United Nations Environment Programme (2021) highlights that nature-based solutions (NbS) can deliver up to 30–37% of the emissions mitigation required by 2030. However, the State of Finance for Nature (2023) identifies a financing gap exceeding USD 4 trillion by 2050—underscoring a significant opportunity for private sector leadership and investment.

In India, these risks are further amplified by local realities. Studies such as Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability in India (Springer, 2020) point to rising temperature variability, shifting monsoon patterns, and increased frequency of extreme weather events. National assessments indicate that nearly 30% of India’s land is degraded (Indian Space Research Organisation, 2021), while most river basins are under water stress due to over-extraction and pollution (NITI Aayog, 2018). These trends are translating into heightened operational, supply chain, and financial risks across industries.

Against this backdrop, the workshop aims to translate global ambition into decision-useful, enterprise-level insights, particularly relevant to India’s resource-constrained growth trajectory. A key highlight is an interactive SDG simulation, enabling participants to navigate real-world business scenarios by allocating limited financial and operational resources. The simulation brings to life the trade-offs between People, Planet, and Prosperity, reinforcing systems thinking and illustrating how sustainability decisions influence financial performance, ecosystem health, and societal outcomes.

Key Sessions

Plenary Session I: Nature-Based Solutions & Biodiversity
This session will explore how NbS can be operationalized as scalable, investment-linked strategies to address climate change, water security, disaster risk reduction, and biodiversity loss. It will focus on translating ecosystem restoration into measurable business value and positioning nature as a productive asset within corporate value chains.

Plenary Session II: Industry Case Studies – TNFD Adoption
Featuring leading organizations from India Inc, this session will showcase early adopters of the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) framework. It will offer practical insights into identifying nature-related dependencies and impacts, addressing data and valuation challenges, and integrating these considerations into enterprise risk management, governance, and capital allocation.

Emerging evidence underscores that nature-based approaches offer integrated solutions across mitigation, adaptation, and ecosystem restoration, while supporting livelihoods and economic resilience. However, scaling these solutions requires robust data systems, cross-sector collaboration, and the integration of ecological metrics into financial decision-making.

By combining experiential learning, policy dialogue, and practitioner-led insights, the workshop seeks to equip participants with a systems-oriented, data-driven understanding of nature-related risks and opportunities—enabling a shift from compliance-led sustainability to strategy-led value creation, aligned with climate goals and future-ready economic models.
